Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for plant operational maintenance
  2. Conduct planned routine maintenance
  3. Conduct breakdown maintenance
  4. Conduct temporary repairs
  5. Finalise the maintenance activity

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

perform plant operational maintenance on at least two occasions, including:

interpreting the maintenance schedule and coordinating resources

completing planned routine maintenance

evaluating the extent of work required to fix the breakdown

completing breakdown maintenance

completing temporary repairs

recording details of maintenance action completed and/or follow-up action required

completing housekeeping activities.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for performing plant operational maintenance

work effectively with others to perform plant operational maintenance in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to perform plant operational maintenance, including:

site and equipment safety requirements

equipment and plant operational procedures

site equipment and plant maintenance procedures

site environmental requirements and constraints related to operational maintenance activities

principles and techniques for identifying equipment and plant types, characteristics, capabilities and limitations

principles and techniques for identifying relevant hazards and emergencies

techniques for coordinating and communicating job activities with others.
